Shiny Happy Vastenhouwies

A busy and exciting week of September for the Vastenhouw lab!

Here's a recap.

September 6, 2021:

We were thrilled to head back to in-person conferences! The 21st Gene Regulation Workshop (formerly known as the Swiss Commission for Molecular Biology (SKMB) Meeting) is back, and we are happy to be on site and hear about the research work from the amazing line up of speakers.

September 9-10, 2021:

Nearly 200 people from the Génopode Building gathered in Les Diablerets, Vaud for a two-day retreat. A wonderful opportunity to finally meet our peers - research groups from the Center for Integrative Genomics (CIG) and the Department of Computational Biology (DBC), as well as the core facilities and the BioInformatics Competence Center (BICC). The two-day retreat featured talks from different research groups, poster sessions, and social activities (hiking, tennis, mushroom hunting, and aerial arts). Looking forward to next year's retreat already!

September 11-12, 2021:

Back-to-back retreats for Ramya and Edlyn! They went back to the mountains, this time in Finhaut, Valais, where they spent the weekend in a chalet with 30 other postdocs from UNIL. The retreat was

organized by the Association for Postdocs in Natural Sciences @ UNIL (APNS), and it was a great opportunity to mingle with other postdocs, hike in the Gorges du Triège, and most importantly, obtain insights and career advice from several UNIL group leaders and scientists, and former UNIL-EPFL alumni who have ventured out into other career paths in science.
