Nadine and Edlyn, together with other women scientists at the CIG, attended the 9th annual "Women in Science lunch". The event took place at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace on November 11, 2021. The CIG scientists were spread across 11 tables, and spoke with attendees to discuss about their own research, their career paths in science, and raise awareness of the research happening at the CIG.
The Women in Science Switzerland (WISS) was established nearly a decade ago, by Lola and John Grace. The luncheon is a fundraising event for the program, "Fund for Research and Education in Genetics"., whose mission is to promote education in science, and to foster communication between science and society, as well as to support the CIG in its research activities. This year's lunch featured a talk by Dr. Melanie Blokesch (EPFL), who spoke about the ongoing cholera pandemic, and her latest research efforts in understanding the impact of the natural environment on Vibrio cholerae, the bacterium that causes cholera, on its ability to become pathogenic.
Many thanks to the WISS committee and Nathalie for organizing this event.
